The History of Tillicum Chapter

In January of 1962, there were plans afoot to start a new DAR chapter in the Highline neighborhood. By December, it had been decided that it would be a chapter in Des Moines, Washington and that it's name would be 'Tillicum' , a Chinook word meaning friends-people. In just one short year, Tillicum Chapter, NSDAR, was officially organized and then on January 20th,1963 it was officially recognized by NSDAR as a new chapter. We started with 17 members and as of today, we have over 60 members!
